Additional history that happened since the last application (their history at the school before they left, what happened and caused them to return): Intending on taking a visit to the fascinating floating island above the academy, Hal happened upon a slight problem with his beloved Ornie, his little robotic ornithopter friend. A plan was made, a trajectory was set, but alas, a wrong button was pushed...
After an extremely uncomfortable number of weeks on an island in the middle of an unknown sea in a completely foreign location, Hal finally mended his troublesome automaton and returned to Smash Academy, an even more hapless form of his former self.

In-Character 1st person sample:
[Feeling particularly nervous, Hal clumsily walks into the laboratory where he will be teaching his first robotics class of the semester]
Good morning class. My name is Professor H-hal Emmerich. Oh God.
[His palms and brow now beginning to sweat, he approaches the teaching lab bench]
T-today, I'm going to be, ah, telling you about robotics.
[Noticing that the class is paying very little attention, he begins become more nervous and a little agitated. Bits of student paraphernalia are being flung across the room. A ball of what he hopes is wet paper traveling at high velocity strikes Hal in his already extremely moist face. Not knowing how to react, he wipes his brow and continues with the class]
Now class... eh, please settle down. Let's start by going through the basic tenants of, eh, robotics.
[Just as he's about to start describing the tenants, a loud noise emanates from the other side of the wall he's standing in front of.]
Huh....
[As he turns to see what's going on, there's a loud BANG and a large crack appears in the wall. A green slime begins to seep through the wall]
HOLY....
[Hal dives under the workbench in a state of panic]
Oh no, n-not again.
[At this point, Hal is now curled up in the fetal position, urinating his trousers]
In-Character 3rd person sample:
Despite the late hour, and the fact that he has been in the lab for twenty hours straight, Hal is working like a crazy, coffee-fueled scientist in an attempt to complete his latest brain-child, the MetalGear Chef. While working on the finishing touches of the controlling program, a thought occurs to him. If he were to replace the for loop on line one hundred and twenty seven with an if statement, the efficiency of the automatonic chef would increase ten fold!
After a short while, the final touches are made to the program, and the relevant wires are connecting the robot to the controlling computer system. Hal finds his index finger hovering over the final key that needs to be pressed before the the project is initiated for the first time. As with all of his other robotic projects, Hal is feeling particularly nervous. Beads of sweat are beginning to form on the front of his brow. Finally, after a minute and a half of anticipation, he decides to push the enter key. He hears a click. Then another click. Finally, the sound of pneumatics slowly beginning to pump and motors reving up from within the robot fill Hal's ears. Chef's head lift and turns to face Hal. "How may a delight your taste buds today" says the robot, in an accent that can only be described as a monotonic drone. A smile begins to form on Hal's face, and his eyes start to well up. It's the small touches in his creations that always pluck his heart strings.
After a moment of tearful gloating, Hal looks down at his watch. Realizing that he hasn't eaten in at least ten hours, he decides that a bite to eat wouldn't be such a bad idea. As usual, he forgot to pack the sandwich that he so craftily constructed the previous morning. With this in mind, he tells Chef that he would like a ham sandwich. The words "One Hal sandwich, coming right up" drone from Chef's metallic mouth. At this point, the meat cleaver attached to Chef's right arm begins to rise. "Wait a minute", says Hal. "Did he just say a Hal sandwich???". Chef turns sharply towards his creator and lurches forward. "Oh no!". Hal swiftly turns and runs in the opposite direction. "I said ham! HAM!!!", he shouts towards the now menacing mechanical chef. "Damn you, autocorrect!"
